"
The oft-rumored Bentley SUV has arrived--albeit in concept form, as the Bentley EXP 9 F, at this week’s Geneva Motor Show.

Bentley describes the EXP 9 F, which could kick off a third model line (next to the Mulsanne and Continental ranges) for the ultra-luxury automaker, as a “compelling new take on the Grand Touring Bentley,” calling it “equally at home at an opera gala performance, on the sand dunes and the overtaking lane of the autobahn.”

With an increasingly diverse customer base, adding a high-end sport utility vehicle makes good sense to Bentley. As many Bentley owners also own SUVs from other automakers, introducing one under the Bentley brand allows the automaker to retain a higher percentage of customer business. An SUV is seen as essential in attracting buyers in developing markets, too.

The challenge was creating an SUV that exceeded customer expectations. Bentley’s director of design, Dirk van Braeckel, explains that the “EXP 9 F had to represent the absolute pinnacle of the sport utility sector, setting a new benchmark for this type of vehicle.”

Starting with a clean sheet of paper, Bentley’s designers incorporated familiar styling elements such as the matrix grille, round lamps and signature character lines. Like all Bentley models, the EXP 9 F Concept had to convey the “hewn from solid” design language that sets all Bentleys apart.

In keeping with Bentley’s “visible engineering” theme, the daytime running light apertures serve as the intakes for the W-12 engine’s charge coolers, and each sports a turbine fan design. The turbine theme is carried over to the 23-inch alloy wheels, and outback, the taillights are styled to look like the engines of a jet fighter, glowing from within and projecting light outwards.

Inside, Bentley blends luxury, technology and utility. There are the expected elements, such as wood, leather, and polished metal, but TFT “virtual” instrumentation adds a bit of contemporary functionality. Floor mats are reversible, with one side being silk wool (for city use) and the other crafted of saddle leather (for the outdoors).

Seating is 4+1, and the rear seats can be easily folded and stowed for increased cargo capacity. When in place, the seats allow users to stay connected via mounted tablet computers, and the center armrest hides a cooled compartment for champagne and glasses. Bespoke picnic baskets and a retractable awning make the EXP 9 F ideal for an afternoon in the country.

Drivers get the benefit of 3D navigation, and can choose between Comfort, Sport and Off-Road driving modes. While the concept uses Bentley’s 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged W-12 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, both the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 or a future hybrid drivetrain could be used in its place.

Bentley will base a production decision on the feedback received from Geneva Show attendees. While an SUV may represent a dramatic break from tradition at Bentley, if its customers demand all-terrain capability, Bentley is happy to address their needs." - http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1073680_bentley-reveals-its-exp-9-f-luxury-performance-suv-concept

"We first saw the 2012 Audi A8 Hybrid back at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show but at the time Audi was short on details and coy about when the car might be launched.

We can now confirm that the A8 Hybrid is set for sale in Europe next year, complete with its four-cylinder and electric motor hybrid combo and gas mileage of 36.75 mpg (European combined cycle figure stated).

Remember, the A8 is a full-size luxury sedan and in hybrid guise delivers a healthy 245 horsepower and 345 pound-feet of torque. CO2 emissions are 238.18 grams per mile.

Audi has gone with a parallel hybrid setup for the A8 Hybrid, meaning either its four-cylinder engine or electric motor can power the vehicle.

The electric motor, mounted inside the transmission housing, is rated at just 54 horsepower, though it can power the car solely at speeds of up to 60 mph. On electric power alone, the total driving range is only 1.86 miles.

The four-cylinder engine, meanwhile, is a 2.0-liter TFSI unit rated at 211 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

A multi-plate clutch that operates in an oil bath connects or disconnects the electric motor and the TFSI engine. Note, drive is sent to the front wheels, and not all four as is the case with the rest of the A8s sold in the U.S.

Powering the electric motor is a smallish lithium-ion battery that ways around 80 pounds. It is located in a crash-proof area in the trunk. It provides 1.3 kWh of nominal energy and up to 54 horsepower (40 kW) of power.

A brake energy recovery system is also fitted to help top up the battery.

Performance numbers are impressive for a car of this size, with the 0-60 mph coming up in 7.7 seconds and top speed rated at 146 mph.

2012 Audi A8 HybridIn visual terms, the A8 hybrid is distinguished by subtle details. The ten spokes of its alloy wheels--which have a diameter of 18 inches as standard and 19 inches as an option--are designed to mimic turbine blades.

Additionally, the body features hybrid badges, and Arctic Silver is available as an exclusive paint finish. Metallic paint finish, three-zone automatic air conditioning, LED headlights and a Bose system all come standard. Stay tuned for pricing details closer to next year’s sales launch." - http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1065389_2012-audi-a8-hybrid-preview

"All-new for 2013, the Acura RDX takes what was good about the previous model--its just-right size, nimble handling, and attractive design--and makes them better, while working on the rough spots. Those rough spots included a slightly too-rough ride, laggy power delivery paired with a balky transmission, and somewhat lackluster gas mileage. They're mostly smoothed over in the 2013 RDX.

It's not often that a car manufacturer gets so far out ahead of the curve that it's forced to retrace its steps, but in some ways, that's exactly what happened to the Acura RDX. Offered in turbo four-cylinder form well before that was the happening thing in luxury vehicles, let alone crossovers, many eschewed the smaller Acura for the MDX or went to rival brands offering six-cylinder models.

Fast forward a few years, and those rival brands are now bringing out their own turbocharged four-cylinders and Acura has moved to a 273-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine. While that might seem like a step backward, it's actually more fuel efficient, slightly more powerful (at peak) and noticeably smoother in its power delivery. All of those things make the move away from turbocharged small-displacement engines back to V-6 territory a sensible one, despite the shifting sands of the rest of the market. Fuel economy of the new V-6 picks up as much as 5 mpg highway over the previous 2012 RDX.

Behind the wheel, the new RDX feels nearly as peppy as the previous model off the line, though the surge of the 2012 model's turbo added some excitement that's not present in the linear power delivery of the new V-6--though that's not really a criticism. Under full throttle, the RDX willingly merges with speedy freeway traffic, readily passes 50-mph two-lane slow pokes, and generally zips around like you'd expect a luxury crossover to do. It also handles the road well, absorbing big bumps with ease while remaining composed in windy sections. It owes this behavior to its new two-stage dampers, which include a secondary floating piston that activates in certain driving conditions to control body motion and improve handling without sacrificing ride comfort.

The transmission, on the other hand, lags slightly behind driver inputs, particularly when a two- or three-gear downshift is required (hard acceleration from moderate speeds, as in passing), balking for just a moment before grabbing the gear and accelerating as desired. The issue was noticed in both all-wheel drive and front-wheel drive models, indicating it's not a problem of the on-demand distribution of torque to the rear wheels.

Exterior design of the 2013 RDX is slightly changed from the 2012 model, though not markedly so; the prominent grille is made slightly less noticeable, the fender arches are slightly more pronounced, and the overall design is smoother and more mature. Inside, the interior is all-new, with characteristic Acura high-tech style, but thankfully less reliance on bright, hard plastic elements and more soft-touch, matte-finish items. A preponderance of bright-finish chrome in the center stack is eye-catching, but clashes slightly with the look and makes sunny days a chore of avoiding reflected glare, seemingly catching the sun from every angle.

The cabin itself is quiet--very, quiet, in fact, and comfortable. Front-seat space is ample for even those over six feet tall, yet an eight-way power adjustable seat and tilt/telescoping steering column offer adjustability for most heights and body types.

Technology abounds, as you expect with Acura, undercutting the competition on the equipment available for the price--though you won't find some of the higher-end features BMW and Mercedes-Benz offer on the list of available upgrades, such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and parking assistance. What you will find, however, is standard dual-zone climate control, cruise control, keyless entry with push-button start, ambient lighting, a seven-speaker sound system with USB/MP3/Auxiliary support, Bluetooth handsfree calling, and more--all standard. An available Technology Package adds navigation with voice controls, real-time traffic and weather, a 10-speaker Acura/ELS audio system, GPS-linked climate control, SMS texting support, and Pandora app functionality.

Most of this technology comes off well, notably the excellent Acura/ELS audio system, which produces clear, enveloping sound even at very low volumes. The navigation system is relatively easy to use, and functions well, but the display--though high-resolution--looks a bit dated in comparison to the large, wide-aspect screens in BMWs and the sharp, color-coordinated displays from Audi.

As a crossover, it's not all about passenger comfort and tech goodies, however. There's also the matter of cargo space and utility--that's what sets it apart from an equivalently-priced sedan, after all. Here, the RDX is right in the zone for its compact crossover class, with 26.1 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats, 61.3 cubic feet with the seats folded flat, and 76.9 cubic feet including under-floor storage. Even so, it's aimed at younger pre-children couples and slightly older couples with children off to college, not so much at families, kids, and the attendant gear." - http://www.thecarconnection.com/overview/acura_rdx_2013

It's no secret that it was largely luck that vaulted sales of the Nissan Altima past the Honda Accord and to within spitting distance of the Toyota Camry in the hotly contested midsize sedan segment. Mother Nature's bad luck struck Honda and Toyota disproportionately last year just as economically shell-shocked buyers started venturing back into showrooms. Nissan and Hyundai/Kia reaped the benefits as the sales race tightened to the point that the top six nameplates in the segment wound up with a market-share point-spread of just six points, down from 16 or more in a typical year. Transaction prices have tightened up similarly. This year Nissan is standing on the gas trying to hold or improve its position with its all-new 2013 Nissan Altima, but of course it will be joined by a similarly rejuvenated Accord, Fusion, and Malibu. The Camry and Passat were new last year.

Like the NV vans, Pathfinder, and Infiniti JX, the fifth-generation 2013 Altima sedan has been engineered from the ground up for America in Farmington Hills, Michigan. It will be built in Mississippi and Tennessee for export to 45 countries and now shares its D-platform underpinnings with the Japanese-market Teana. (The current-gen coupe continues through next year.) Relative to the outgoing Altima, the wheelbase is unchanged but the rear track is widened slightly, the car is 0.8 inch longer, and 1.3 inches wider. Extensive use of ultra-high-strength steel means the body structure -- already among the featheriest in the segment -- weighs in 79 pounds lighter (roughly 3100-3200 pounds depending on configuration) and is 30-percent more rigid. We're also told to expect best-in-class acceleration, and handling targeted not at the competitive set, but at such luminary sedans as the BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class.

WHAT? A front-driver tilting at rear-drive German sport sedans? We'll believe it when we feel it, but the rear suspension does break some new ground. The multi-link design features a standard upper lateral link and a lower setup that mimics an A-arm composed of two pieces, each of which provides stiff resistance to lateral loads (as in hard cornering), while the brace across the A is softly jointed to allow some passive toe-angle control and helpful dynamic rear steering. Also, the Sachs dampers are tuned like the M37's to provide soft ride over small-amplitude bumps and a lot more control when the wheel really starts jouncing. In addition, Nissan has also added what it's calling Active Understeer Control, software designed to brake the inside front wheels during cornering when needed to increase yaw-moment, helping to mitigate torque steer in normal driving.

Styling highlights, as previewed by the recent Ellure concept, include the now de rigueur coupe-like roofline, a grille shape inspired by a Shogun's formal coat (?!), and a rear-end shape inspired by the gate to a Shinto shrine. OK, if you say so, in any case the drag coefficient drops from 0.310 to 0.299. Other cool features: The optional rear-view camera gets an extreme fisheye lens and sophisticated image-processing software to take that view and parlay it into a blind-spot warning system, a cross-traffic alert warning when backing out of confined spaces, and even a lane-departure warning. And the computer flattens out the view of what's behind you so it looks normal.
Standard equipment includes NissanConnect integrated smart-phone connectivity with standard Bluetooth streaming audio and available hands-free text messaging assistant, Pandora, real-time POIs powered by Google, Google Send-to-car, and Easy Fill Tire Alert (which beeps the horn when the tire's full). Oh, and the seats are supposedly designed using lessons learned in zero-gravity before Skylab crashed to earth. Somehow they "reduce muscular and spinal loads, and improve blood flow" for long-haul comfort.

Powertrain-wise, the new QR25 2.5-liter four-cylinder features variable timing on both cams and a composite variable-volume intake manifold to broaden the torque curve. The engine is lighter and features a magnesium oil pan and a smart-charging alternator, and peak output increases from 170 hp and 175 lb-ft to 182/180. Combined with a next-gen CVT (wider ratio range, 40 percent less friction, improved control logic), EPA fuel economy improves from 23/32 mpg to 27/38 (the unchanged VQ 3.5-liter V-6's EPA scores jump from 20/27 to 22/30, thanks to the CVT). A hybrid model will follow at an unspecified date. The CVT is the only transmission available regardless of engine choice.
Production begins in May for June deliveries, and this lighter, quicker Altima appears to have what it takes to hold its position against the traditional front-runners. We suspect the Aston-esque Ford Fusion lineup, replete with hybrid and plug-in versions, will present a serious challenge from behind, however. Keep it tuned right here for the inevitable roundup of all the key players later this summer.

"Audi’s long-awaited Q5 Hybrid, which was launched for sale in Europe late last year, is reportedly still on track for a local debut.

The eco-friendly crossover was first revealed almost two years ago and has been in contention for a U.S. launch ever since due to this market’s penchant for hybrids.

However, Audi has been reluctant to officially confirm the Q5 Hybrid’s arrival.

According to KickingTires, however, a spokesman for the automaker has confirmed that the Q5 Hybrid is coming soon, though no mention of a sales date or pricing has been made.

It will be Audi’s first hybrid vehicle on sale in the U.S. and is expected to come with a similar drivetrain to the one found in European models. This means a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine matched to an electric motor and eight-speed automatic transmission. The gas engine has a rating of 211 horsepower, while the electric motor is rated at 54 horsepower and is powered by a lithium-ion battery.

2012 Audi Q5 Hybrid Audi’s hybrid design allows the gas engine and electric motor to couple and decouple via a multiplate clutch, enabling the two powertrains to work independently or together in parallel fashion. The electric motor can drive exclusively for short distances and at speeds of up to 60 mph. However, it’s mostly used to aid the engine during high load situations, such as overtaking or driving up a hill.

Gas mileage on the European test cycle averages around 34 mpg, though EPA ratings are likely to be lower due to differences in the tests. Audi's performance figures say the Q5 Hybrid does 0-60 mph in around 7.1 seconds and can reach a top speed of 138 mph, which is quite impressive given its 4,400-pound curb weight.

Audi is preparing to launch an updated Q5 for the 2013 model year and it’s likely that the Q5 Hybrid will be part of this new model range." - http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1056338_2013-audi-q5-hybrid-coming-soon-report

The Toyota Avalon has always been big on size and comfort, but not much else. The brand’s flagship sedan, however, takes baby steps toward stylish and sporty judging by the 2013 Toyota Avalon, which debuts at the 2012 New York auto show.
At the car’s unveiling, Toyota’s Group Vice President Bob Carter described CEO Akio Toyoda reaction upon seeing the new Avalon for the first time: “Cool! Don’t change a thing.” While the 2013 Avalon’s primary demographic won’t likely call the full-size sedan “cool,” the new sheetmetal is definitely a big departure from the outgoing model.

Up front, the lower air dam dominates with its large gaping, trapezoidal grille and chrome-like trim. In sharp contrast is the more subdued upper grille and headlights, which mimic the Camry’s overall design. The profile reveals a couple character lines, but the kink on the rear quarter window and the wraparound taillight treatment have a greater visual impact. The rear end features horizontal LED taillights connected by a chrome bar, while a contrasting lower bumper helps break up the Avalon’s vertical heft. The wheel wells can be filled with 17- and 18-inch wheels.

Buyers may find the Avalon’s interior to be its strongest asset. The unique dashboard design is highlighted by a floating center stack trimmed in a metallic finish. Capacitive buttons and a standard touch screen add a modern touch, while generous amounts of faux-wood and soft-touch materials cover the dash and door panels. Toyota says the dash panels and contrast stitching are handcrafted on sewing machines. Optional features include navigation, a JBL sound system, ambient lighting, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear seats, three-zone climate control, and an adaptive cruise control system.

Toyota says the cabin is quieter thanks to added sound absorbing material, while redesigned side view mirrors, repositioned windshield wipers, and acoustic glass should reduce wind noise. Toyota doesn’t cite any changes in passenger room despite a reduction of overall length from 197.6 to 195.3 inches and a 1.7-inch reduction in the rear overhang. Better yet, trunk capacity has actually increased 1.6 cubic feet to 16 cubic feet.

Powertrain details haven’t been released, but we expect Toyota’s ubiquitous 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 268 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque to carry over, as well as the six-speed automatic. Toyota says the body is stronger, while a new suspension includes stiffer springs and sway bars to reduce body roll. The Avalon even features a Sport mode that Toyota claims will enhance throttle response and will adjust the electric power steering system for a more weighted feel (other modes include Normal and Eco). Additionally, steering wheel mounted shift paddles are now offered.

2013 Toyota Avalon pricing hasn’t been announced, but the 2012 model starts at $33,955 (including $760 destination). Toyota says the new Avalon is the automaker’s first car designed, engineered, built, sold, and serviced in America. Models should reach dealers by the end of this year.

The legend is back. After halting production of the NSX in 2005 after a 15-year reign and an adoring cult following, the 2013 Acura NSX, Acura’s latest reincarnation has a new look but still retains a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive setup. The Acura luxury brand of Honda group, used the Detroit Auto Show to promote the presentation of the 2013 Acura NSX Concept, which brings back a name revered by many super sports fans in the four corners of the planet. The design is one of the highlights of the 2013 Acura NSX concept car.

Without exaggeration of style, the 2013 Acura NSX material by the fluidity of its lines, which combine elegance and aggression in the right proportion. Not much should change to the 2013 Acura NSX hit the streets in Japan, what should happen in the coming years.

Like the original Acura NSX, which made history in 90 years, the new 2013 Acura NSX specs will feature a center-rear V6 engine with an output estimated at 406 hp. The 2013 Acura NSX could accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in under five seconds. Few additional details are known at this time as the 2013 Acura NSX production is not expected to begin until 2015.

The manufacturer has not released technical details about the 2013 Acura NSX, but rumors say that the vehicle will have hybrid drive, equipped with two electric motors – probably one on each axis. The 2013 Acura NSX transmission will have the dual-clutch technology and has an electric motor to improve acceleration figures.

We don’t mean to be hard on the 2013 Acura NSX concept. After all, the 2013 Acura NSX looks great–and even manages to look a bit like the original. But is the 2013 Acura NSX really a supercar? We wouldn’t even ask the question if it weren’t for Acura’s marketing materials tossing the term at us every third word.

Hybrid sports car? Hybrid grand tourer? Hybrid performance vehicle? Yep, these are valid. But supercar? With an estimated 400 horsepower from a 3.5-liter V-6 engine paired with a hybrid system, and a focus on light weight (says Acura), the 2013 Acura NSX could well be a very high-performance car, hybrid or not but to classify anything in the 400-horsepower range that weighs more than 2,000 pounds or so as a supercar seems a stretch.

The 2013 Acura NSX physics just won’t let it reach the mid-three-second 0-60 mph range or blistering 60-120 mph acceleration that justify the appellation. All of that aside, we’re excited about the new 2013 Acura NSX concept, and we’re looking forward to seeing it on the streets–and to hopping behind the wheel–whether it’s a supercar or not.

2013 Acura NSX On Super Bowl

$33,000 is the listed value for the 2013 Acura NSX price, available in March of 2012. The five-passenger 2013 Acura NSX will be built at Honda’s plant in East Liberty, Ohio while the old version has been built in Marysville, Ohio. Look at these 2013 Acura NSX wallpaper, the exterior incorporates a sleek, more aerodynamically efficient body, changing from the appearance of a compact SUV.

You’ve got to give the Acura some props here; the brand has never made it to the Super Bowl but that’s all about to change thanks to Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno and the delicious revival of their flagship talismanic sports car, the 2013 Acura NSX Concept. If ‘go big or go home’ is the right approach to Super Bowl marketing, Acura should score a touchdown with their 2013 Acura NSX advert.
